Maritime India Vision , a blueprint for the coordinated and accelerated growth of Indian maritime sector, has been formulated by the Ministry of Port, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India with an objective of propelling India to the forefront of Global Maritime Sector in the next decade.
In this backdrop, Maritime India Vision MIV is formulated with an objective of reforming and transforming Indian maritime sector in order to propel India to the forefront of Global Maritime Sector in the next decade. Properly developed ports are the center point of MIV Given above, this paper tries to analyze various initiatives and recommendations made in MIV to transform Indian ports to more smart, safe, economic, sustainable and green in order to make them globally competitive.
Methodology This paper analyzes and build up on the vision document and other supporting reports, publications and notifications of Government of India to verify the practicality and effectiveness of initiatives identified for port sector.
The Secondary data is collected from the websites of various ministries of India, sea ports, Indian Port Association and other relevant sources. An analysis of the current and future challenges of the following initiatives identified under MIV for port sector is being carried out to evaluate the efficacy of the envisaged vision of enhancing the performance and efficiency of Indian ports to the world class level.
